Volunteering — coming together as a community, and helping your local needy. To quote the old saying, charity begins at home. Of course, organizing your schedule so that you’re free to volunteer often squanders very time that could be put to so much better use. Moreover, if volunteering becomes a team effort with colleagues, it’s likely to be far more fun.

It’s become a taboo to be critical of Christmas (the ‘Scrooge’ effect). But I’m not the only one who is fed up with the crass commercialisation of the so-called ’season of goodwill’.
